During my winter break, I dedicated my time to developing a vertical slice of a game. In this game, players take on the role of an unnamed Buddhist Monk preparing for a sacred mission: ascending their temple tower to confront and defeat Māra, the personification of evil in Buddhism.
Core Gameplay Features
Player Abilities:
- Players can dash in any desired direction, enabling quick dodges to evade enemy attacks.
- Engage in melee combat using the monk’s fists to battle against Wing Chun-style wooden dummies.
Combat Mechanics:
- Successfully landing consecutive hits on an enemy triggers a combo multiplier. Missing an attack resets the multiplier, adding a layer of challenge.
- Missing attacks triggers a subtle "whoosh" sound for clear player feedback.
- Landing successful hits plays a powerful punch sound, paired with a floating damage number above the enemy.
Accomplishments in the Project
- Designed and implemented all gameplay features.
- Modeled every piece of geometry displayed in the game.
- Developed a dynamic wind sound system capable of generating nearly infinite variations.
- Created a custom cloud shader to enhance the atmospheric setting and immerse the player in the game world.
- Developed clean sound design to deliver clear and immediate feedback to the player.
